1. BsAs – Two Month Update

So I’ve been in South America (Buenos Aires almost exclusively) for 2 months now, and I’m a little bit overdue to post some pictures. For some reason on this trip I have had a hard time taking photos because I know I have more than just a couple days to capture the pictures I need. The perverse result is that I take almost no pictures. Almost half of the ones I’m posting right now are from other people’s cameras, and I’m actually waiting on a bunch of good ones from the frisbee group I found through couchsurfing.

I spent the majority of the first two months living in El Conventillo, a cool house in Almagro filled with 9 other people, all of whom hailed from somewhere in Europe. The housemates were all super friendly and helpful, and gave me a good chance to get over being shy with my terrible Spanish! We had some seriously epic house parties, too.

Mostly I’ve just been working a lot, and on days that I’m not working I’ve been meeting up with people to grab some mate and chat in Spanish (and English). I really quickly have gotten a hang of the city, but I keep having to remind myself not to spend so much time with study abroad students and expatriates! It’s just too easy to get sucked into the expat community because I can express myself fully and all of the people I’ve met have been super friendly and have really extended some helping hands.

I thought I would’ve gotten a bike but I really just get around with the subway, buses, and taxis.

Come January 5 I’m headed to Montevideo, Uruguay, to meet my two brothers, John & Will, who are coming down to do some adventuring with me. I’m positive getting a little more movement in the schedule will push me to take more photos!
